Effect of performance

We have already examined realistic billable hours and the effect of management fees for your hourly rate. Now we're going to try the effect of performance.

A time when we were engaged, we received a package of benefits from our employer. These usually include health, life and disability insurance. Many companies also had programs to provide pension, profit sharing, dental and vision coverage. Furthermore, half of your Social Securityare borne by the employer.

Self, we must ensure the benefits for ourselves. This means more than pride, we calculated the hourly rate so far. For sake of argument, let's figure a standard benefits package consisting of health, life and disability insurance, pension and profit sharing. Let's figure the cost of health insurance at $ 300 per month, life at $ 50 a month disability pension to $ 150 per month (SEP-IRA) to $ 500 per month and about 10% for a profitMargin.

If we achieve all this we have to an annual amount of $ 12,000. Now keep in mind that most of these payments in dollars, after taxes. So we have a further 30% of this number, a true professional, a total of about $ 15,600 a year. This represents 30% of the amount of taxes you must pay to end with the net amount of money needed to pay for the service package. Note that I chose 30% as a completely arbitrary number. Your tax situation itself may be higher orlower.

How does this effect our hourly rate, we'll see. Last article we left at $ 56 per hour. This is an annual salary of $ 42,000 plus annual administrative fee amounting to $ 15,000. If we take the $ 15,600 share of costs and benefits for our billable hours each year of 1100 we have approximately $ 14 per hour. This brings our total hourly rate of $ 70 per hour.

Now we factor in our percentage of profit sharing. Again, I chose 10% of a representative number. Your targetEarnings could be higher or lower. If you take the rate of $ 70 per hour, multiply by 10%, you will receive seven U.S. dollars per hour. The hourly total comes to $ 77 per hour.

This is the amount required to cover the cost to you what we have discussed so far.

Compare this to about U.S. $ 20 per hour would be paid by an employer to earn our hypothetical $ 42,000 per year. And yes, I know many employers now require an additional payment in their service package. I explained in this way for simplicitysake.

So you have almost four times what they earn in wages to join for free at the end in the same place. Do not be discouraged, there are some people who charge more and get all the business they can handle. Remember, these figures are hypothetical, your situation is very different.

Your Business Plan Needs to Begin With a Vision

“Knowledge will not attract money unless it’s organized and intelligently directed through practical plans and action.” Napoleon Hill, from Think and Grow Rich.

I love this quote. It’s true that all of the knowledge, skill and expertise in the world won’t make you money and turn your vision into reality unless you have an actual plan for how to use them.

Before you can formulate your plan, however, you need to start first with your vision. You have to really see where you want your business to go.

The following questions will help you to plan to reach your business goals by first giving you a clear mental image of what those goals are.

How much money do you want to make?

Name your revenue goal for this year. You have to put a figure on it. When you voice that goal, don’t phrase it in the form of a question. You’re not asking someone’s permission to make that money. State, out loud, what you want to make.

If that figure is in your head, if it’s in your heart, and if it’s something you’ve been dreaming of, it’s absolutely achievable. Doreen Virtue says that God doesn’t give us our dreams without the ability to make them real.

So whatever the figure is, you have to name it to claim it.

Rather than naming a general, round figure – 100,000, a quarter-of-a million, or a million – be more specific. Round figures aren’t real enough for you. Calculate what your dream life would cost you, and then cost it out. It’s rarely going to be a round number. So, get really clear on your revenue goals.

What kind of lifestyle do you want to live?

Think about your lifestyle goals. How much do you want to be working? For example, do you want to take extended vacations and not work for a couple of months?

I decided last year that I didn’t want to work more than three days a week. And now, I don’t. There are plenty of things that will test your decision. You have to decide what’s right for you, and get it down on paper. Remember, the point is to visualize how you want things to be.

Will your business make a significant impact?

Finally, your vision is probably not solely about serving yourself. I’m willing to bet that it’s not only about money and a nice lifestyle, although these are great to have.

I believe that all of us are here to make a difference.

What are your impact goals? Know who the people are that you want to serve and what contribution you want to make. What do you want to be remembered for?

Mapping out your vision of your business, in your mind’s eye and on paper, will give you a good idea of what you want your business to look like.

The mental image and visual reinforcement will help you to develop a plan for making your vision a reality.

Busting Myths About Chiropractic Schools

Looking for a career adjustment? Dr. Chris Shoff, who shares a chiropractic practice with his dad in Albert Lea, Minnesota, says now is a great time to become a chiropractor. “It’s a burgeoning profession because medical doctors are starting to see chiropractors as part of the health care team,” explains Dr. Shoff. “We’re being recognized more and more everyday.”

And, they are also in high demand, says the Bureau of Labor Statistics, which reports that employment of chiropractors is expected to grow faster than average for all occupations through the year 2014 as consumer demand for alternative health care grows.

Read on to learn the real deal about chiropractic schools and what it takes to become a chiropractor.

Myth 1: Chiropractic Schools are Easy To Get Into

That’s simply not the case, says Dr. Shoff, who chose to attend Logan College, just outside of St. Louis, from the 17 chiropractic schools in the United States accredited by the Association of Chiropractic Colleges. At Logan, he explains, applicants must have completed a minimum of three years undergraduate work, including courses in chemistry, biology, organic chemistry, and other hard core science courses. Dr. Shoff had already graduated from the University of Minnesota with a bachelor of science degree in human biology when he applied.

Myth 2: Chiropractic Colleges Don’t Teach Real Medical Knowledge

Once accepted to chiropractic schools, aspiring chiropractors are in for an intense program, heavy on both science and hands-on practical skills. Dr. Shoff took three years and four months to complete Logan’s program at a full-time, year-round pace of 27 or so credits per semester. Coursework at chiropractic colleges includes lecture classes in areas like anatomy and biochemistry, lots of lab work, hands-on adjusting and diagnosis classes, and more. In fact, according to the BLS, chiropractic programs require a minimum of 4,200 hours of combined classroom, laboratory, and clinical experience.

In addition, students at chiropractic schools get a taste for the profession by actually treating patients while still in school. “In the seventh semester, we worked under a licensed chiropractor treating students in the college,” says Dr. Shoff. “By semester eight, we worked in an outpatient clinic under a licensed chiropractor.”

Myth 3: Once you finish coursework at chiropractic colleges, you’re a chiropractor.

Not so. In fact, you’ll have to pass the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners (NBCE) tests, which consists of four parts. Additional requirements vary by state, but you’ll most likely have to also pass a PT (physiotherapy) exam, and possibly an acupunture exam before you can earn your state license. Dr. Shoff says he was able to take one part at a time as he completed corresponding courses at Logan. After taking the final part during his last semester, he began the state license application process. Dr. Shoff became licensed about a month after he completed chiropractic school.

Myth 4: Chiropractors are just wannabe doctors.

Given the amount of education and training required via chiropractic schools, plus the complexity of the licensing exam, it’s safe to say that chiropractors work and study very hard to break into the field. And, for Dr. Shoff, the payoff of getting to help people is certainly worth it.

“It’s a wonderful profession. You can practice privately or do research or education. The practice is only limited by the individual,” he says.

And as for the stigma that might have once existed toward chiropractic? Dr. Shoff shares this: “There’s one particular family physician that I get two or three referrals from a week. My dad graduated [chiropractic college] in 1950, and that’s probably more than he got in 45 years.”

Medicare Plans – What Is Medicare Part C?

The original Medicare includes Part A and Part B. However, these plans do not cover everything. For this reason Congress added Medicare Part C. Part C is alternatively known as Medicare Advantage.

Medicare part A and B are administered by the the U.S. government. Medicare Advantage plans (MA Plan), on the other hand, are offered by private insurance companies. Not any insurance companies can provide part C coverage. Private insurance companies offering this insurance must be approved by Medicare.

By law, Part C plans must provide coverage for the same services provided under the original government plan. This includes Hospital Insurance (Part A) and Medical Insurance (Part B). Both the insurances cover you for emergency and urgent care. The difference is that Medicare Advantage can offer extra coverage. The extra coverage may include vision, hearing and or dental plans. They may also cover health and wellness programs. Many of the Advantage plans also include Medicare Part D which is prescription coverage.

MA plans are different than supplemental coverage, otherwise known as Medigap. Medigap also provide additional coverage to the original Medicare plan. And like part C, you have to pay an additional premium above the Part B monthly payment. But the difference is that Medigap Insurance pays after Medicare pays and Part C pays instead of Medicare. Medicare Part C can be viewed as a replacement policy. That is, the Medicare Part A and Part B are administered by the private insurance companies instead of the government.

You do not need Medigap Insurance if you are enrolled in a Part C plan. Medigap will not cover your MA Plan deductibles, copayment, or coinsurance.

Another thing to note is that Hospice care is not typically covered by a Medicare Advantage Plan. Hospice care is still covered by Medicare if you have a Medicare Advantage Plan. Another caveat is prescription drug coverage. It may, or may not be covered with the private insurance plan. Be sure to check the coverage.

So, you have learned that Medicare Part C is a replacement for Part A and B, that Part C can provide additional coverage. You might chose Medicare Advantage if you would like additional coverage that what is provided in Part A and B. You have also learned that Medicare Advantage plans are not the same as Medigap (Medicare Supplemental Insurance). Supplemental insurance pays after the fact and MA plans pay instead.

How to Make Dental Care More Affordable

Going to the dentist isn’t one of those things we like to think about. Many of us wait until we are in pain before we do go which means more work, more discomfort and of course more money. I can’t do anything about the pain in the mouth but there is a solution to the pain in the wallet.

Strategic Tip #9: Use longer term vision when viewing the solutions and their costs. Use the concept of the “lifetime value” of a client in your deliberations about a cost to fix the problem, in lieu of a short term view of the immediate cost.

Strategic Tip #10: Develop a strategic action plan today for that future call from an unhappy client or customer so that you can capitalize on the opportunity it will bring.
